Rubber bands are made to be shot. Well then, maybe they're made to "hold things in place." Still, it's too tempting not to. If you feel like shooting a rubber band at your sibling's behind, there are several ways you can do it. You can shoot the rubber band with your hand, using other objects, or you can make your own gun that you can shoot the rubber band with and everyone else will be jealous of. Have fun and be careful.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Using your hand

Fire a Rubber Band Step 1

Step 1. Shoot the rubber band from your index finger

The easiest way to shoot a rubber band from your finger is to hook the rubber band around the end of your index finger, then pull it back and shoot it away. To shoot a rubber band from your index finger, do the following:

  • Hook the elastic around the top of your index finger. Point your finger in the direction you want to shoot the rubber band.
  • With your other hand, pull the rubber band back past your sticking thumb.
  • Release the rubber band to shoot it away or hook the rubber band around your thumb.
  • When you hook it around your thumb, move your thumb forward and slide the rubber band off your thumb to shoot it away.

Step 2. Shoot the rubber band from your thumb

If you shoot a rubber band from your thumb, you can be sure that it won't snag or hit the back of your hand while shooting. You can also shoot the rubber band with great force. To shoot the rubber band from your thumb, do the following:

  • Hook the elastic around your thumb top. Point your thumb in the direction you want to shoot the elastic.
  • Point your thumb tip forward so that the elastic will slide off easily.
  • With your other hand, grab the other end of the rubber band and pull it back as far as possible.
  • Release the rubber band with your other hand to shoot it away.

Step 3. Use your index finger as a slingshot

A creative way to shoot a rubber band is to use your index finger as a pivot point, which you can use to pull the rubber band back. You then shoot the rubber band away with the help of your other fingers. To shoot a rubber band in this way, do the following:

  • Reach out with your palm up.
  • Hook the ends of the rubber band around your middle finger and thumb.
  • Use your index finger to stretch the rubber band forward a few inches. Point your index finger in the direction you want to shoot the elastic and pull the elastic tight.
  • Slide the rubber band off your middle finger and thumb at the same time to release it.

Step 4. Make a gun from your hand

The most complicated, but also the most classic way to fire a rubber band is to make a gun out of your hand and wrap the rubber band around it so that you can fire it powerfully. To shoot a rubber band in this way, do the following:

  • Make a gun out of your hand, using your thumb as the cock and your index finger as the barrel. Point with your index finger in the direction you want to shoot the rubber band.
  • Hook the elastic around your little finger and pull it back towards the inside of your wrist.
  • Crochet the elastic all the way around your thumb.
  • Hook the elastic around the top of your index finger.
  • Release the rubber band with your little finger to shoot it away.

Method 2 of 3: Using other objects

Fire a Rubber Band Step 5

Step 1. Shoot the rubber band away from your pen

Tired of the rubber band hitting the back of your hand and leaving a welt on your skin? Then make sure that your hand is not in the way! Hook a rubber band around the tip of your pen or pencil, pull it back and let it fly through the air. To aim as accurately as possible, point the tip of the pen in the direction you want to shoot the rubber band.

Step 2. Use the items you have available

If you want to get creative, use a ruler, the corner of a book, or other objects to shoot your rubber band off. Be creative and come up with new ways. The cap of your glue pot? Perfectly suitable for shooting a rubber band. The head of an action figure? Now you're doing well!

Ideally, use an object that is sturdy enough that it won't move or bend when you hook the rubber band around it and pull it back. You can experiment with flexible objects if you wish. Research which objects are suitable

Step 3. Use the rubber band to shoot other things

The rubber band is just as good for shooting things as it is for being shot yourself. For example, use the rubber band to shoot the following objects:

  • crumpled paper
  • paper clips
  • Skittles and other candies

Step 4. Do not shoot hard objects in the direction of someone's face

Note: Always be very careful when shooting rubber bands or other objects and make sure not to point them at someone else's face. It is better not to point the rubber bands at anyone at all, especially if you are in class at school. In general, you can get in a lot of trouble with your teacher if you shoot things around the classroom. So be careful.

Method 3 of 3: Making a gun to shoot rubber bands with

Fire a Rubber Band Step 9

Step 1. Find a sturdy stick, preferably one with a kink

If you want to make a simple gun to shoot rubber bands, you need to find a good stick for this. The best sticks are sturdy and shaped like a pistol, with a slight kink in them that you can use as a handle. So look for a good stick that is about 6 to 8 inches long in total and about 2 inches wide, if you can. If the stick is shaped like a gun, then you have found a good stick.

Step 2. Sand the wood

If necessary, ask an adult to help you remove the bark and all other debris from the surface of the wood. Cut it away to reveal the clean wood underneath and sand it down with a piece of sandpaper. If you're going to go through the trouble of making a gun anyway, you might as well make it look great.

Step 3. Glue a clip on top of your gun

To release the rubber band, glue a clip to the top of the gun barrel, preferably in a place where you can push the clip open with your thumb while holding the gun. To attach the clip to the gun, do the following:

  • Lay the clip on its side so that the flat side of the clip lies flat against the top of the barrel.
  • Use wood glue to apply a long strip of glue along that side of the clip.
  • Place the clip in the right place and hold it until the glue dries.

Step 4. Make a notch in the barrel of the gun

Also ask an adult to help you here. Using a utility knife, cut a small notch in the front of the gun barrel. Make sure the notch is large enough for the rubber band to fit properly.

Step 5. Attach a rubber band between the notch and the clip

To fire the gun, hook the rubber band around the front of the barrel and then attach it to the clip on top of the gun. When you're ready to shoot, point the gun in the direction you want to fire the rubber band and push down the top part of the clip. The rubber band now comes loose from the clip and flies away.

Even though it may seem cool to paint your gun, you have to be very careful with it. Make sure it doesn't look like a real gun that could get you in trouble. The last thing you want is for someone to call the police because there's a kid running around with a gun. Have fun, but be careful

Tips

  • Try to find a rubber band that is not too big or too small.
  • The farther you pull the rubber band back, the farther you will shoot it.

Warnings

  • If the rubber band falls off your index finger, it will snap back and hit you.
  • When firing, do not aim directly at people and animals.
