Arroz con leche (rice with milk) is a popular dish in Latin America and Spain. It is eaten as dessert or for breakfast. However, not many people know how to make it. Here are the steps to prepare it.

  • 750ml whole milk
  • 300ml water
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup uncooked rice (more if making for many people)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Sugar to taste
  • Handful of raisins (optional)

Step 1. Place the rice and cinnamon sticks in a large pot of water and soak for an hour before cooking

Step 2. Pour the milk into the pan with rice

Bring it to a boil.

Step 3. When the milk is boiling, lower the heat and wait for the rice to cook over low heat

Step 4. When the rice is very well cooked (soft), add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and the sweetened condensed milk or some sugar to taste (you can also make it without the condensed milk)

Step 5. Stir the mixture constantly until it has the desired thickness

Step 6. Let it cool

Step 7. Finally, serve it with a layer of ground cinnamon

Also add the raisins if you like.

  • Garnish with a strand of the cinnamon stick.
  • Cover the raisins with rum and let them sit for a few hours for a delicious taste.
  • Try adding some cocoa powder for a different taste.
