WMA is a proprietary file format of Windows Media Player. If you want to listen to your music on devices that do not support WMA files, you will have to convert them. And if the WMA file contains DRM protection, you will have to remove that first.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Remove DRM from WMA files

Convert Unprotected WMA Files Into MP3 Files Step 1

Step 1. Open Windows Media Player

You can remove DRM (digital rights management) protection from your WMA files by burning them to an audio CD and then ripping them to your computer. As a result, you lose some quality.

You can convert losslessly by using a program that can remove DRM, but these programs are generally on the expensive side

Step 7. Reinsert the burned CD into the CD tray

It is possible that the CD was ejected automatically after burning. In that case, close the CD tray again with the burned CD in it.

Method 3 of 4: Convert without iTunes (Mac OS X and Windows)

Convert Unprotected WMA Files Into MP3 Files Step 16

Step 1. Download conversion software

Mac OS X does not support the WMA format. The iTunes method in the above section will not work on a Mac because Windows Media Player is not installed. That means you'll have to download an external program from the Internet in order to convert. Several options are available.

Adapter is one of the more popular free options, and we base the steps in this section on this program. It is free to download for both PC and Mac
