It's in the "Privacy & Security" group at the bottom of the list.

Step 7. Set the slider to 'Off'

As long as this button is off or grayed out, Chrome will automatically display the contents of the PDF files instead of downloading them to your computer.

As long as the slider is set to "On" or blue, Chrome will prompt to download PDF files instead of displaying them automatically.

Step 5. Scroll down and click on Choose default apps by file type

A list of file types will appear on the left side of the window, with each associated app on the right.

Step 6. Scroll down to '.pdf

The current default PDF reader appears to the right of this entry.

Step 7. Click on the default PDF reader

For example, if this is Google Chrome, click Google Chrome. A list of apps that can open PDFs will then appear.

Step 8. Click on the app you want to use

The selected app will now open the PDFs on your PC by default.

Method 4 of 4: Change the default PDF reader in macOS

Step 1. Press Control while clicking a PDF file in macOS

A menu will open.

Step 2. Click on Show info

The current default PDF reader appears next to 'Open with' in this screen.

For example, if Preview is set as default to open PDFs, you'll see it here

Step 3. Click the drop-down menu next to 'Open with'

A list of alternatives appears.

Step 4. Click on your preferred program

If you want to use Chrome, select Google Chrome. You can also choose another option if you don't want to use Chrome.

A confirmation message appears.

The selected application will now open the PDFs on your Mac by default.
