Maybe you've lost a Nintendo DS game or one of your favorite games got damaged, and you're wondering if you can download the game so you don't have to buy it again. The answer to that question is: yes, you can! Read on below to find out how to download DS games for free! This method works for the DS, DS Lite, 3DS, etc.
Step 1. Make sure you have the necessary parts
You can download the games along with an emulator if you want to play them on your computer, but if you want to play them on a DS, you'll need some extra gear. The main thing you need is an R4 DS card and a microSD card. You can purchase these in store or online. An adapter for the microSD is also necessary if your computer does not have a built-in slot.
Be careful not to buy R4 cards which are fake or counterfeit. Sometimes these don't work at all
Step 2. Download the games you want from well-known websites
Search the Internet for the "rom" or digital file of the game you are looking for (for example, "Pokémon Black rom"). Websites like CoolRom and RomHustler are a good place to start.
- Make sure the file is a.nds file.
- Know that you can usually play older games on newer devices. You can play the game on the DS it was intended for, or newer. Playing a 3DS game on a regular DS will usually not work.
Step 3. Put the.nds file on the microSD
Copy the file from wherever you saved it to the card.
Step 4. Insert the microSD card into the R4 card
Step 5. Insert the R4 card into the DS
You can do this in the same way as in a normal game.
Step 6. Play the game
Select to play from the microSD card, just like other games. You get the choice which game of the card you want to play. Make a choice and go play it!
Play the very old games. You will be surprised how much fun they are
- An update to a 3DS may cause this method to not work.
- Some games, such as Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, may not work because of security built in.
