This wikiHow teaches you how to have WhatsApp automatically download the images and videos you've received to your phone's camera roll or gallery.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: On Android

Step 1. Open WhatsApp
That's the icon with a white phone on a green and white chat cloud.
If this is your first time opening WhatsApp, you need to set up WhatsApp first

Step #2. Tap ⋮
This button is located at the top right of the screen.
If WhatsApp opens in a conversation, you must first tap the back button at the top left of the screen

Step #3. Tap Settings
That's the button at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Tap Data usage
This is at the bottom of the page.

Step 5. Tap When using mobile data
This option is directly under the heading 'Media Auto-Download' on this page.

Step 6. Tap on each type of message you want to download
You have the following options:
- photos
- Sound
- Videos
- Documents
- Be careful if you are going to download large files via the mobile data, because that can lead to extra costs.

Step 7. Tap OK
It's at the bottom right of the media options screen.

Step 8. Tap When connected to Wi-Fi
This option is under 'When using mobile data'.

Step 9. Tap on each type of message you want to download
The options are the same as with the mobile data.

Step 10. Tap OK

Step 11. Tap When roaming
This is the last option in the 'Media Auto-Download' settings.

Step 12. Tap each type of messages you want to download
The options here are the same as with the other two auto-download categories.
Be careful when downloading media while roaming as it can lead to impressive data charges

Step 13. Tap OK
Now any photo or video someone sends you based on your chosen download preferences will be automatically downloaded to your Android gallery.
Method 2 of 2: On iPhone

Step 1. Open WhatsApp

Step #2. Tap Settings
It's in the bottom right corner of the screen.
If WhatsApp opens in a conversation, you must first tap the back button at the top left of the screen

Step #3. Tap Chats
This option is in the center of the screen.

Step 4. Slide Save Incoming Media to the 'On' (right) position

Tips
- If you haven't given WhatsApp access to your phone's camera roll, sliding the button to the right will prompt you to click OK tap to do so.
