This wikiHow teaches you how to add a WhatsApp contact with an international phone number to an Android phone or tablet.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using WhatsApp
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
It's the green icon with a white phone and chat bubble. You can find it on your home screen or in the app drawer.
Step #2. Tap on the new chat icon
It's the green circle with a white chat message in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step #3. Tap on the new contact icon
It is the plus (+) next to the silhouette of one's head and shoulders. You'll find it at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Select a save location
This is where WhatsApp stores your new contact. You can choose to save it to your device's internal storage or to your SIM card.
Step 5. Type a name for the contact
Step 6. Enter the international phone number of the contact
Start typing the '+' symbol followed by the country code (eg 44 for the UK).
For example, a UK phone number might look like this: +447981555555
Step 7. Tap Done
It's in the top left corner of the screen.
Step 8. Tap the back button until you get to the new chat
Step 9. Tap on ⁝
It's in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 10. Tap on Refresh
Your contact has now been added and your contact list has been updated.
Method 2 of 2: Using your address book
Step 1. Open your Android's contacts
This is usually a blue icon with a white outline of a person's head. You can find it in the app drawer.
Step #2. Tap on the new contact icon
It's in the bottom right corner of the screen. Look for a gray silhouette of a person's head with a plus sign (+).
Step 3. Choose a save location
This is where WhatsApp stores your new contact. You can choose to save it to your device's internal storage or to your SIM card.
Step 4. Type a name for the contact
Step 5. Enter the international phone number of the contact
Start typing the '+' symbol followed by the country code (eg 44 for the UK).
For example, a UK phone number might look like this: +447981555555
Step 6. Tap Done
It's in the top left corner of the screen. Your contact has now been added to your Android phonebook, which means you can now chat in WhatsApp.
