Compared to SMS, WhatsApp is a cheap alternative for sending messages. WhatsApp also supports sending photos, videos and voice messages. WhatsApp is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Nokia S40, Symbian and Blackberry phones.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Registering an account

Step 1. Create an account
Open WhatsApp. Type your phone number in the screen that appears, then press Done.
- If you don't live in the United States, tap United States and select your country of residence.
- When you register, WhatsApp will send you an SMS with a confirmation code. You must then enter this code before you can continue. If you don't have an SMS on your phone, you can ask to be called.

Step 2. Enter your name
In the Profile window, enter a name you want to use with WhatsApp, then click Done.
- you can use your own name or a pseudonym.
- Add a profile picture in this screen.

Step 3. Search your friends and acquaintances on WhatsApp
WhatsApp will ask you to access your contacts' phone. If you allow this, WhatsApp will use your contacts' phone numbers to search for WhatsApp users and add them to your favorites. You will then see a list of all your contacts in the Contacts screen.
If you don't want to allow this method of access, you can always manually add contacts to WhatsApp using that contact's phone number
Part 2 of 2: Sending a free text message

Step #1. Tap on Favorites
You can also send a message from the chat screen

Step #2. Tap on the name of one of your contacts
If you want to WhatsApp someone, that person will also have to install the program on his or her phone, so that they can send each other messages

Step #3. Type a message and then tap Send
You'll see the message above the chat text field.
