This wikiHow will teach you how to find people on Instagram to start following. You can do this using Instagram's search feature, adding recommended users, as well as people from your Facebook account or your phone's contacts list.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Add from the search bar
Step #1. Open Instagram
Tap the multicolored Instagram app icon. This will open your Instagram home page if you are logged in.
If you are not logged in to Instagram, please enter your email address (or mobile number) and password before continuing
Step #2. Tap on the magnifying glass
You will find this at the bottom of the screen, on the left.
Step #3. Tap on the search bar
This is the gray field at the top of the screen that says 'Search'. Your phone's keyboard should now appear.
Step #4. Tap on the People tab
You will find this under the search bar. This limits the search reach to Instagram.
Step 5. Type a name or account name
As you type, results will appear below the search bar.
Step 6. Select an account
Tap an account you want to view. This will open the account page.
If you don't see the account you want to follow right away, scroll down
Step 7. Tap on Follow
It's a blue button in the top right corner of the page. With this you will follow the account; you will see this account in the section Next of your profile.
- If the account is protected, you can continue on To follow tapping send a request to the account owner. If he agrees with the request, you can start tracking the account.
Part 2 of 4: Adding suggested users
Step 1. Tap on your profile icon
You can find this in the bottom right corner of the screen. This will open the Instagram profile page.
If you are logged in to multiple Instagram accounts, the profile symbol is your current profile image
Step #2. Tap on the 'Discover' symbol
This is the silhouette of someone with a + next to it. You can see this symbol in the top left corner of the screen (iPhone) or in the top right corner of the screen (Android).
Step #3. Tap on the Suggestions tab
You'll see this option in the top-left corner of the Discover People page. This will show you a list of profiles, based on your interests and current tracking preferences.
Step 4. Find a profile you want to follow
Scroll down through the suggested accounts until you find one you want to follow.
Step 5. Tap on the profile
You now open the person's profile page.
If the page is protected, you will only see the profile picture and a bio
Step 6. Tap on Follow
It's a blue button in the top right corner of the page. With this you will follow the account, which means that from now on you will have this account in the section Next of your profile.
- If the account is protected, you can continue on To follow tapping send a request to the account owner. If he agrees with the request, you can start tracking the account.
Step 7. Tap on the 'Back' button
This can be found in the top left corner of the screen. This will take you back to the 'Discover People' page.
Part 3 of 4: Adding Facebook contacts
Step #1. Tap on the Facebook tab
This is the middle tab at the top of the Discover People page.
Step #2. Tap Connect to Facebook
You'll see this blue button in the middle of the screen.
If you have already linked Facebook to Instagram, continue with the 'Find a profile to follow' step
Step 3. Select a login option
Tap on Sign up with Facebook or Register with email or phone number.
- If you're already logged into Facebook with your mobile device, you'll see Continue as [Name].
Step 4. Log in to Facebook
Skip this step if you want this Continue as [Name] have seen. Depending on your preferred login choice, this procedure will differ:
- Facebook app - Tap on To open when requested. You may need to enter your email address and Facebook password first.
- Phone or email address – Enter your phone number or email address in the "Email or phone" field, then type your password in the "Facebook password" field and tap login.
Step 5. Tap Continue as [Name]
This is a blue button at the bottom of the screen. This gives Facebook access to Instagram.
- For example: if your name is Martha, you tap Continue as Martha.
Step 6. Wait for the list of your Facebook friends to appear
This may take a few seconds depending on how many friends you have.
Step 7. Find a profile you want to follow
Scroll through your list of friends until you find one you want to follow.
- You can also just click Everybody Tap at the top of the page to follow everyone.
Step 8. Tap on the profile
This will open this person's profile page.
Step 9. Tap on Follow
It's a blue button in the top right corner of the page. With this you will follow the account, which means that from now on you will have this account in the section Next of your profile.
- If the account is protected, you can continue on To follow tap, send a request to the account owner. If he agrees with the request, you can start tracking the account.
Step 10. Tap on the 'Back' button
This can be found in the top left corner of the screen. This will take you back to the 'Discover People' page.
Part 4 of 4: Adding contacts from your phone
Step #1. Tap on the Contacts tab
This can be found in the top right corner of the 'Discover people' page.
Step #2. Tap on Sync Contacts
It's the blue button in the middle of the page.
If you have already given Instagram access to your contacts, skip to the 'Find a profile to follow' step
Step 3. Tap Allow Access (iPhone) or Get Started (Android).
Do this when you get such a message. This will add all the people from your contact list to the tab Contacts.
- You may need to confirm that you've given Instagram access to your location by clicking Yes or OK tap when prompted.
Step 4. Find a profile you want to follow
Scroll through your list of friends until you find one you want to follow.
- You can also just click Everybody Tap at the top of the page to follow everyone.
Step 5. Tap on the profile
This will open this person's profile page.
Step 6. Tap on Follow
It's a blue button in the top right corner of the page. With this you will follow the account, which means that from now on you will have this account in the section Next of your profile.
