Steps

Method 1 of 2: Sharing your own posts

Share a Post on Instagram Step 1

Step #1. Open Instagram

This is the multicolored camera icon on your home screen (iPhone/iPad) or in the app drawer (Android).

Use this method to share your own photo and video posts on other social networking sites (eg Facebook and Tumblr) or via email

Step 6. Select a sharing method

Choose another social media network to share your post or choose one of the following options:

  • E-mail:

This will open your email app, where you can then enter the recipient's email address (plus any text you'd like to include), then tap Send.

  • Copy link:

This copies a direct URL to the message that you can paste wherever you want (e.g. a text message). To paste, tap and hold where you want the URL to appear, then tap To stick.

Step 7. Sign in to your social media account

Through Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Flickr you will be taken to a screen where you can log into your account. Once logged in, go back to the cameo and the network name will appear in blue.

  • You can share to multiple social media networks at once.
  • If your Instagram account is already linked with your other social media accounts, you don't need to sign in again.

Step 8. Tap on Share with

Your post is now available on the selected social media networks.

  • Sharing a post with a social media network links your Instagram account to that network. To manage the linked accounts, go to the settings on your Instagram – the wheel icon (iPhone/iPad) or (Android) in the top right corner of your profile – and tap Linked Accounts.

Method 2 of 2: Sharing someone else's message

Share a Post on Instagram Step 9

Step #1. Open Instagram

This is the multicolored camera icon on your home screen (iPhone/iPad) or in the app drawer (Android).

Use this method if you want to share a photo or video in your feed with a friend on Instagram. The person who uploaded the photo or video won't be notified that you're sharing their post

Share a Post on Instagram Step 10

Step #2. Tap the Instagram Direct icon under the post you want to share

This looks like a paper airplane and is located to the right of the Comment icon (chat bubble).

Share a Post on Instagram Step 11

Step 3. Select a recipient

When you see the profile picture of the friend you want to share the post with, tap it. If not, start typing his or her name in the search bar, then tap his or her photo when it shows up in the search results.

Tap more profiles to share the message with multiple people. You can select up to 15 recipients

Share a Post on Instagram Step 12

Step 4. Enter a message

To start typing, tap the box that indicates Write a chat message and then enter the text you want to include.

You can skip this step if you don't want to add your own text to your message

Share a Post on Instagram Step 13

Step 5. Tap Send

This is located at the bottom of the screen. Your friend will receive the message as a direct message.

If the message you share is private, your friend (the recipient of your direct message) must follow that account to see it

Tips

  • You can't share someone else's Instagram Story, only their photo and video posts.
  • If your Instagram account is private, your followers will be the only ones who can view your post via the direct URL.
