In this article you can read how to change your password on a smartphone with Android, or on an iPhone or an iPad. If you are already logged in to Instagram and you know what your current password is, you can easily create a new password within your settings. Even if you are unable to log in to Instagram, you have a few options: You can change your password using your Instagram associated Facebook account (only available in Android) or you can link to your email. email address or to a phone number where you can receive text messages, using which you can change your password.
Method 1 of 3: Recover a forgotten password on an Android smartphone
Step #1. Open Instagram on your Android phone
It's that icon in the colors pink, orange, yellow and white that looks a bit like a camera than you can usually find in the app drawer. If you can't remember your Instagram password, you can usually get it back from the app's login screen.
Step #2. Tap Get help signing in
You can find this button under the 'Login' or 'Sign up' button.
Step 3. Choose a method to change your password
You can recover your password in three ways:
To use your username or email:
As long as you have access to the email address associated with your Instagram account, you can use this option to receive a link to change your password.
Send a text message:
If your Instagram account is linked to the number of this same smartphone running Android, use this option to send yourself a link via text message that will allow you to recover your password.
Login with Facebook:
If your Instagram account is connected to your Facebook account, you can recover your password by logging in via Facebook. This only works if you remember your Facebook account password. If you have multiple accounts on Instagram that are all linked to the same Facebook account, 'Restore with Facebook' will recover the password of the account you last connected to it.
Step 4. Enter the requested information in Instagram
You must have access to the email address or phone number associated with the account for these options to work. If you're going to go the Facebook route, log in to your Facebook account to confirm your identity, then follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.
Step 5. Follow the link to recover your password
When you got the text message or email with the link, tap the link to open the page and create a new password. Once you have confirmed your new password, you can immediately use it to log in.
- If you don't have access to your email address or phone number, please try to access your old email address again if you can. If you've forgotten the password for that address, you can usually change it by going to the provider's website, or by calling for help.

Method 2 of 3: Recover a forgotten password on an iPhone or iPad
Step #1. Open Instagram on your iPhone or tablet
If you forget your Instagram password, you can usually change it from the Instagram login screen.
Step #2. Tap Forgot Password on the login screen
It's just above the 'Login' or 'Sign up' button.
Step 3. Tap Username or on Telephone.
If you would like to recover your password using a link sent to the email address associated with your account, choose User name. If you prefer to receive a text message with the link, please select Telephone.
Step #4. Enter the requested information and tap Send Login Link
If you User name then enter the username you use for Instagram or the email address associated with your account. If you have the option Telephone selected, enter the phone number associated with your account.
Step 5. Open the link in the email or text message
You should receive a text message or an email from Instagram after a few minutes with a link with which you can create a new password. Enter your new password in the space provided, and confirm it by typing it again.
- If you can't access your email address or phone number, try to access your old email address again if you can. If you don't remember its password, you can usually change it by going to the provider's website, or by calling for help.

Method 3 of 3: Change your password if you know it
Step 1. Open Instagram on your smartphone or tablet
If you are already logged into Instagram and you know your current password, you can easily change it within your settings.
Step #2. Tap on the Profile icon
To do this, tap the head-shaped icon at the bottom right of the Instagram page.
Step #3. Tap on the menu at the top right corner
On an iPhone/iPad it is three horizontal lines, and on an Android smartphone it has the shape of a gear.
Step #4. Tap on Settings
This button is at the top of the menu.
Step 5. Tap on Security
To do this, tap the screen with the check mark on it.
Step 6. Tap on Password
To do this, tap the icon in the form of a key at the top of the menu.
Step 7. Enter your current password
You must enter your current password without errors in the 'Current password' field before you can create a new one.
Step 8. Create a new password
Enter your new password in the 'New password' field, then in the 'New password, again' field.
Step 9. Tap Save or the check mark to save the password
You will see one of these options in the top right corner of the screen. Once Instagram has accepted your new password, you can use it to log in to Instagram.
- When choosing a new password, make sure it is at least eight characters long and consists of a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
- If you have a new email address, change your address to Instagram right away. Go to your profile, tap Change profile and enter your new email address in the 'Email' field.
