In this article you can read how you can use Facebook on both your PC and on your smartphone or tablet.

Method 1 of 7: The first steps

Step #1. Open Facebook

Go to in your computer's web browser, or tap the icon of the mobile version of Facebook on your smartphone or tablet. This will take you to the Facebook login page, unless you have previously logged in.

Step 2. Create an account for Facebook

You can create a Facebook account from your PC as well as from the mobile version of Facebook.

Step 3. Go to your Facebook page

Exactly how you open your page depends on whether you're using a computer or a mobile device (such as a smartphone):

  • On a PC - Click the tab with your name on it at the top right of the window.
  • In the mobile version – Tap in the top right or bottom corner of the screen, then tap your name at the top of the menu that opens.

Step 4. Add a profile picture

You can add a photo of yourself (or whatever you want) to your profile so other users can recognize you:

  • On a PC - Click Add photo At the top left of your Facebook profile page, click Upload photo, choose a photo on your computer and then click To open.
  • On the mobile version – Tap the square profile icon at the top of the page, tap Choose profile picture, tap a photo you want to use and tap To use.
  • You can also put a photo at the top of your Facebook profile by clicking Add cover photo, clicking or tapping, then Upload photo clicking (on a PC) or Change photo (in the mobile version) and by choosing a photo from your computer or your mobile platform.

Step 5. Edit your account details

If you didn't enter any specific information when you created your account (or if you want to partially delete the information you previously entered), please visit your profile page:

  • On a PC - Click About below where your cover photo is, click on a topic under the "About" heading on the left side of the page (for example Places where you have lived), swipe your mouse over an item and click To process when this option appears, edit that item.
  • In the mobile version - Scroll down and tap About, just above the text field that says "What are you thinking?", tap the pencil that says "Edit" to the right of an item, tap the option To process and edit that part.

Step 6. Save the changes

Click or tap Save on the page you edited to save the changes you've made and apply them to your profile. Now that you've created your Facebook page, it's time to add some friends.

Method 2 of 7: Add friends

Step #1. Select the search bar

Click or tap the search bar at the top of the page or screen. For example, your cursor will be placed on the search bar and if you use the mobile version you will see the keyboard built into your smartphone or tablet.

Step 2. Enter a friend's name

Enter the name of someone you want to add as a friend in Facebook and click or tap the name you just typed when it appears below the text field.

  • You can also press ↵ Enter or to search To search tap when you're done typing.

Step 3. Select your friend

When you've found the friend's profile you're looking for, click the profile to open that person's public profile page.

Step #4. Click or tap on Add Friend

You'll find this option near the very top of the page (on a PC) or to the right of your friend's name (on the mobile version). This way you ensure that a friend request is sent to that person; if he or she accepts the request, you will be able to view his or her Facebook profile and posts.

Step 5. Take advantage of Facebook's friend suggestions

Facebook will recommend you through a list of possible friends. This works best if you've already added a few friends, but you can view suggestions for friends at any time:

  • On a PC - Click the tab with your name, click friends under your cover photo, click + Find friends and click Add friends next to each of the friends you want to add.
  • In the Mobile version – Tap , tap on friends, tap the tab suggestions and tap Add friends next to each of the friends you want to add.

Step 6. Add more friends

Facebook is most useful if you have multiple friends to keep in touch with, so feel free to add as many friends as you want. Once you've added enough friends, you can start publishing photos and information.

Method 3 of 7: Making posts on your PC

Step 1. Go back to your profile

To do this, click on the tab with your name in the top right corner of the Facebook window.

Step #2. Click the status text field

You will find this text field, which usually contains the question 'What are you thinking about?' written in the middle of the page, just below your cover photo and the list of tabs. This is how you open the status text field.

Step 3. Create your post

The basis of a status is always text. You can type that text directly into the status field, but you can also add other things to your publication:

  • You can add a photo to your post by clicking Photo/Video clicking below the text field and then selecting one of the photos or videos you have stored on your computer.
  • To tag a friend in your post, type an @ at sign, then type the first letters of his or her name, and then click on the person's name in the menu that appears.
  • You can also add your location by clicking To check in below the text field and then enter an address.

Step 4. Adjust the privacy status of your post if you want

Your privacy is set by default so that your posts will only be visible to your own friends, but you can change this by clicking the drop-down box friends left of the button Post clicking, and then clicking a different privacy setting.

This option is at the bottom of the status window. This is how you create your post and publish it on your profile page.

If you are friends with someone you can Comment click below one of his or her posts and comment on that person's original post.

If a friend of yours has access to your posts, he or she will also see that post and your comment on the pages of his or her News Feed

Method 4 of 7: Making posts on your smartphone or tablet

Tap on in the bottom right or top corner of the screen and tap your name at the top of the menu you see.

You'll find it under the series of tabs below your profile picture. This opens the status text field and the built-in keyboard appears on the screen of your smartphone or tablet.

Step 3. Create your post

The basis of a post is always text. You can type that text directly into the status field, but you may also want to add other things to your publication:

  • You can add a photo to your post by clicking Photo/Video below the text field and then choose a photo or video from the archive on your smartphone or tablet.
  • To tag a friend in a post, enter an @ at sign followed by the first letters of his or her name. Then tap the name you are looking for in the menu that appears.
  • You can also add your location by clicking To check in below the text field and then enter an address.

Step 4. Adjust the privacy status of your post if you want

In principle, this is set so that only your direct friends can see your posts, but you can change this by clicking the drop-down box friends tapping the top left of the text field and then another privacy setting (such as Public or Only me) and finally on Finished to tap.

You'll find this option in the top right corner of the screen. This is how you create your post and add it to your profile page.

If you are friends with someone you can Commentary tap under one of his or her posts and type a comment under the original post.

Method 5 of 7: Post photos and videos to Facebook from your PC

Step 3. Choose a photo or a video from your computer

When the File Explorer window (on a Windows PC) or Finder window (on a Mac) opens, navigate to where the photo you want to publish is stored and click it once.

To upload multiple photos or videos at once, hold down Ctrl (on a Windows PC) or ⌘ Command (on a Mac) while simultaneously clicking each of the photos or videos you want to publish

Step #4. Click Open

This option is in the lower right corner of the window. Your photo(s) and/or video(s) will now be posted on Facebook.

Step 5. Add text to your post if you want

While it's not absolutely necessary, you can add text to your post if you'd like by hitting the 'Say something about…' text box above the photo(s)/video(s) and type your text there.

This option is below the status field. This is how you create your post and add it to your profile page.

Friends who have access to your page will also see this post in their News Feed

Method 6 of 7: Post photos and videos to Facebook from a smartphone or tablet

Step 1. Go to your News Feed

Double-tap the square that says "News Feed" in the bottom left (on an iPhone) or top left (on an Android smartphone or tablet) in the corner of the screen.

You'll find this option near the top of your News Feed page. This will open a list of all photos and videos stored on your smartphone (or tablet).

  • On a smartphone or tablet with Android you will find the option Photo at the top right of your News Feed page.

To do this, tap the photo or video you want to post on Facebook.

If you want to select multiple photos or videos at once, tap the photos or videos you want to upload one by one

This option is in the top right corner of the screen. The uploading process of your photos or videos will then begin.

Step 5. Add text to your post if you want

You don't have to, but if you want you can add text to your post by tapping the text field above your photos and typing your text.

This option is in the far top right corner of the screen.

You can see it in the window that will appear at the bottom of the screen. This ensures that your post is added directly to your profile and to your News Feed.

Method 7 of 7: Do more with Facebook
