You are in love or no longer in love, and you want to shout it from the rooftops. These days, there's no better place to do that than Facebook. You can quickly change your relationship status with the Facebook app or on the Facebook website.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the Facebook app

Step #1. Open your profile in the Facebook app
Open the Facebook app on your device and then go to your profile. How you do that depends on whether you're using Android or iOS:
- Android - Tap the Menu button (☰) in the top right corner, then tap your name at the top of the screen.
- iOS - Tap the Menu button (☰) in the bottom right corner, then tap your name at the top of the screen.

Step #2. Tap on 'Update Information'
If you can't find the 'Update information' option, tap the 'More about you' option.

Step 3. Scroll down to your relationship status
On an Android device, you'll find this option at the bottom of the first section of the More About You screen. With iOS, you'll have to scroll a bit to find this option.

Step 4. Adjust your relationship status
Tap the 'V' button and choose 'Edit relationship status' or 'Edit', depending on which version of the app you are using.

Step 5. Choose your relationship status
Tap the current status to change your status. You can choose among others 'Single', 'In a relationship', 'Engaged', 'Married', 'Has a registered partnership', 'In an open relationship' and 'Has a cohabitation contract'.
To remove the relationship status from your profile, choose the option '---'

If your partner also has a Facebook account, your partner's name will appear below the text box as an option to click.

Step 7. Enter the date of your anniversary

Step 8. Set your privacy settings
By tapping the Privacy menu in the bottom left corner of the "Relationship" section, you can choose who can see your relationship status. The default setting is that your friends can see your relationship status, but you can also choose "Everyone", "Only me" or "Custom". You can also choose people from your lists. Tap "More options" to see these options.

Step 9. Save your settings
Tap the 'Save' button when you are done entering information. If you entered another Facebook user into your relationship status, they will receive a message asking for confirmation that they are in a relationship with you. Your relationship status will be shown on your profile when the other has confirmed.

Tips
- If the person who gets a message about changing your relationship status doesn't get an email with a link or can't find it, tell them to check the notifications to find the relationship request.
- On Facebook, you can choose from the following options for your relationship status, many of which are LGBT-friendly (options vary by country):
- Single
- Has a relationship
- Engaged
- Married
- Has a registered partnership
- Has a cohabitation contract
- It's complicated
- In an open relationship
- Widow widower
- Apart
- Divorced
Warnings
- Before you make a major change in your relationship status public on Facebook, make sure you tell the people who matter to you first. Your parents or siblings may not like it so much if they read on Facebook that you're engaged instead of telling them yourself.
- A change in your relationship status should always be discussed with your partner before making any adjustments on Facebook. You need to make sure you have the same idea about your relationship.
