In this article you can read how you can ensure that someone's posts no longer appear in your News Feed. By unfollowing a certain person, you will no longer automatically see that person, while, unlike when you block someone, you can still view the friend's profile by going to his or her Facebook page.
Method 1 of 2: On a smartphone
Step #1. Open Facebook
The app's icon has the shape of a blue square with a white letter 'f' on it. If you're already logged into Facebook, this will take you straight to your news feed.
- If you're not already signed in to Facebook, first enter your email address (or phone number) and password, then tap login.
Step #2. Tap on the search bar
You can find it at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Type in your friend's name
This must be the name of the person you want to unfollow on Facebook. Suggestions appear below the search bar as you type.
You can also click on your friend's name in your 'Friends List' or in your News Feed if you want
Step #4. Tap on his or her name
You should see the name you're looking for as the first option below the search bar.
Step 5. Tap on the 'Next' button
You'll find it in the options row right below the profile picture and the name of your Facebook friend.
You automatically follow all friends you've added
Step 6. Tap on the Unfollow button
This option is in the far left corner of the drop-down menu near the bottom of the screen.
Step 7. Tap on the top of the screen
This will exit the menu and save the changes. You will no longer see status updates from this person in your News Feed.
Method 2 of 2: On a PC
Step #1. Open the Facebook website
If you are already logged in, this will take you directly to your news feed or your news overview.
- If you haven't signed in to Facebook yet, first enter your email address (or phone number) in the top right corner of the screen and click login.
Step #2. Click on the search bar
It's a white text field at the top of the page that says "Search Facebook" in it.
Step 3. Type the name of your boyfriend or girlfriend here
So this must be the Facebook name of the person you want to unfollow. Suggestions appear below the search bar as you type.
You can also click on your friend's name in your "Friends List" or in your News Feed if you'd like
Step #4. Press the ↵ Enter key
Facebook will then search your account for your friend's name.
Step 5. Click on his or her name
It should be the first option at the top of this page.
Step 6. Move the mouse cursor over the 'Next' button
You can find him almost at the top of your friend's Facebook page, to the right of his or her profile picture.
Step 7. Click on Unfollow [Name]
This option can be found at the bottom of the 'Follow' drop-down menu. This is how you unfollow the friend in question. That way, all reports of his or her activities will be removed at once, and you will no longer see any of his or her publications in your News Feed.
- You can also unfollow people by tapping or clicking the arrow in the top right corner of one of their posts in your News Feed and then Unfollow [Name] to select.
