Advertise on Facebook

Facebook has more than a billion users, more than half of whom log in daily. Advertising on Facebook costs money, but studies have shown that the investment can be very profitable. In addition, as an advertiser you can use the demographic information of Facebook and thus target a specific target group of a certain age and with certain interests. Anyone can place an ad on Facebook, whether it's for a Facebook page, an event, an App or your own website. In this article you can read how to do that.

Method 1 of 3: Advertise on your company's Facebook page

Advertise on Facebook Step 1

Step 1. If you don't have an account yet, you need to register as a user with Facebook

Your event or business does not need to be on Facebook yet, but you must be a registered Facebook user.

Step 2. Choose a category and a page name that fits your company or service

Your Page becomes a profile of your business. You do not need a page to advertise on Facebook, but actually all companies now have their own Facebook page. On your page you can promote your product or service, you can keep in touch with your customers and you can open up opportunities to get in touch with new customers.

Step 3. Use your logo or other image that people associate with your company as your profile picture

Step 4. Choose a cover photo

This is the first thing people see when they open your Page. The cover photo spans the entire width of your page, so it should be something that reflects your brand and showcases your product or service.

Let's say you create a page for your Barbara's Cupcakes business. Then it's a good idea to use a tasty looking photo of cupcakes for your cover photo, or you could choose to use a photo of Barbara herself busy and happy baking

Step 5. Describe your business in one sentence so people know what you do

This phrase comes just below the logo and category. Potential customers should be able to see at a glance which services or products you provide.

Step 6. Set an easy-to-remember web address for your page

You can use that on marketing materials that promote your presence on Facebook.

Step 7. Start posting right away to reach your customers

It could be about the upcoming sale or a new product. You can post different types of posts to your Page, such as updates, photos, videos, and questions. The people who like your Page will see some of those posts in their News Feed.

Step 8. Make sure your message reaches its target

Advertisers now know that some messages completely miss the point. Keep the following tips in mind when posting:

  • Keep it short. According to Facebook, posts of 100 to 250 characters are 60% more liked, shared and commented.
  • Make a message visually appealing. Only words stand out less. According to Facebook, photo albums, photos and videos attract 180%, 120% and 100% more people, respectively.
  • Use Page Insights to learn how to optimize your posts. For example, statistics will help you find out when your content reaches the most people, so that you can post at those times.

Method 2 of 3: Place an ad

Step 1. You can choose between posting a "Sponsored Report" or a "Facebook Ad"

Sponsored Stories are posts from friends about their interaction with a business and are the best way to drive word of mouth for your Page, according to Facebook. A Facebook ad is written by you and contains a clear call-to-action.

With a sponsored report you can then choose between a "Page Like Story" and a "Page Post Story". A "Page Like Story" shows the user a friend who likes the page with a call-to-action in the form of the "Like" button. A "Page Post Story" shows the user a piece of text and image of your last post. The call to action in this case is the Like, Comment, and Share buttons

  • Get a lot of people to like your page. The more people like your Page, the bigger the audience you reach every time you post.
  • Promote page posts. Promote a specific post, which will increase your reach and increase your chances of being featured in News Feed.
  • Reach out to people you don't already interact with through Facebook.

Don't advertise blindly, but intelligently. You need to know who the ideal customer is that you want to target. Once you've selected your ads and sponsored stories, you can choose the specific audience for your ad.

  • Location: Choose a specific city, state, or country where you want your ads to be seen.
  • Age/Gender: Choose the age and whether you want to reach men or women.
