Siri is one of the coolest new features of iOS. Siri is smart, informative, a good listener-all with a good dose of humor! This article is an introduction to Siri, and we'll tell you how to use different features and functions.

Step 2. Start talking

The microphone icon now lights up-indicating you're connected to Siri. When you're done talking, two tones sound again. Now the screen shows in text what you have said. Siri then responds based on your question or command.

  • For example, if you ask "What time is it?" Siri will tell you the current time. You can also ask "What time is it in Brazil", Siri will then tell you the current time in Brazil.
  • When you say "Play jazz", Siri will open iTunes and a jazz playlist will play.

Siri can interact with almost all built-in Apple apps, including Twitter, Wikipedia, Facebook, and more.

  • You can use Siri to find nearby restaurants, make appointments, and even call your mom-all by asking.

Step #3. Turn on Location Services

If you turn on Location Services, Siri can give you information based on your location.

For example, if you need to run errands after work, you can tell Siri to "Remind me about errands after work." When you walk out, Siri will remind you in a friendly tone of the errands you need to do

Step #4. Dictate with Siri

On all Siri-enabled devices (iOS and OS X), you can say what you want to write and have it converted to text. Tap the microphone icon on your keyboard and start talking. When you're done, tap "Done" and Siri will convert your words to text.

  • Speak naturally. Siri has been developed in such a way that you can talk to it like you would talk to a human being, Siri can even interpret intentions that are not explicitly spoken.
  • Ask Siri anything. Siri understands and handles all types of questions, and often has a surprising answer. For example, if you ask "Who is your father?", the answer could be "Steve Jobs is my father", but also "To me you are my family. After all, we know each other so well".
  • Siri understands and speaks the following languages:

    • English (US, UK, Australia)
    • Spanish
    • French
    • Japanese
    • German
    • Italian
    • tangerine
    • Cantonese (Hong Kong)
    • Korean (Korea)
    • Dutch
