Method 1 of 4: Using iCloud

This is the name the file will have in both Numbers and Excel.

This can be found in the lower right corner of the window. This saves the Numbers document as an Excel document. You can then open the document on any computer with Excel by double clicking on it.

Method 3 of 4: In Windows

The URL is https://cloudconvert.com/numbers-to-xlsx. While Windows itself has no way of turning a Numbers document into an Excel document, you can use CloudConvert's services to do this conversion.

The File Explorer will probably open your Desktop folder, so if the Numbers file isn't there, you'll first need to navigate to the file's location from the sidebar on the left.

This will upload the Numbers file to the CloudConvert website.

The 'select format' menu may already list '.xls' or '.xlsx', in which case you can skip the next two steps

XLS is an older file format of Excel, while XLSX documents are the new format of Excel.

It's the red button at the bottom right of the page. This will convert the Numbers document to the selected Excel format.

You can double-click the converted Excel document to open it in Excel, if you have Excel installed on your computer

Method 4 of 4: Using an iPhone

You may need to tap the "Back" button at the top left of the screen first if Numbers opens an existing document.

This option is near the top of the screen.

You'll see the mail icon, which looks like a white envelope on a light blue background, in the top row of the pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen.

This will appear in the 'To' field at the top of the screen.

You will find this option at the top right of the screen. The Numbers document will now be sent to your email inbox in.xls format, from where you can download it to a computer with Excel installed.

Tips

  • If you have a cloud option (e.g. Google Drive or iCloud Drive) available on your iPhone or iPad, you can select it from the pop-up menu where you will find "Mail". Uploading your Excel document to a cloud service gives you the option to download it from the cloud, instead of using an email.
  • Newer versions of Excel documents are saved as.xlsx, rather than.xls.
