This wikiHow teaches you how to pause or cancel a file download from your Android's Notification Center, and how to cancel an app download from the Play Store.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Stop downloading a file

Step 1. Open your mobile internet browser
You can use all mobile browsers available for Android, such as Chrome, Firefox or Opera.

Step 2. Find the file you want to download on your Android
It can be a document, link or any kind of file.

Step 3. Start the file download
Tap the download button on a webpage or tap and hold a link and select Download link in the pop-up menu. You'll see a download icon on the status bar in the top left corner of your screen.

Step #4. Swipe down from the top of the screen
This will open the notification center in a drop-down panel. The file download appears at the top of the notifications.

Step 5. Tap on the Pause button
You will find this button under the name of the file you are downloading. This will pause your download until you decide to continue.
- You can resume the download at any time by clicking To resume to tap.

Step 6. Tap on the Cancel button
You will find this button under the name of the file you are downloading. It will stop and cancel the file download. The download window disappears from the message center.
Method 2 of 2: Stop downloading an app

Step 1. Open the Play Store on your Android
The Play Store icon looks like a colored arrowhead icon in your apps menu.

Step #2. Find and tap the app you want to download
You can browse the menu categories or use the search bar at the top to quickly find an app. Tapping it will open the app page.

Step #3. Tap the green INSTALL button
This button is located under the app name in the top right corner of the app page. It will start the download of the app on your Android.

Step #4. Tap on the 'X' icon
The INSTALL button is replaced by an X icon when you start downloading an app. Tap this icon to pause and cancel the app download.
