The easiest way to increase the volume on an Android device is to use the volume buttons, which are normally located on the right side of the phone, or with headphones or an external speaker. To increase the sound quality and also increase the volume when listening to audio files, you can also choose to download some apps from the Google Play Store.
Method 1 of 2: Adjust the system settings
Step 1. Make sure the speaker is not muted
Clean your speakers from dust or dirt that could muffle the sound. You can also connect headphones or speakers.
Step 2. Unlock the device and press the 'Increase Volume' button
To increase the volume on your Android phone, you can use the hardware buttons, which are located on the side of the device. Make sure your device is on and press the volume key until the displayed bar is at maximum.
This temporarily opens a fold-out pop-up menu for the sound
Step 3. Open the 'Settings' app on your device
If the pop-up menu is not available for some reason, you can also go to the system settings to find the same options. You can find this via the quick menu that you swipe down from the top of the screen, or in the app drawer on older Android versions. There is a gear button in the corner of this menu, which you can also use to get to the sound menu.
Step 4. Choose 'Sound and Notifications'
In this menu you can adjust the volume for notifications, ringtones, system sounds and media. Set the sliders to maximum volume by sliding them all the way up or all the way to the right.
Step 5. Close all unused apps
An important thing to remember when using an Android device is that it is in fact a mini computer, which means that only limited processor capacity is available. If you have a lot of apps running in the background, your device may slow down as processing power is used to keep those apps open.
You can do this on most devices by holding down the home button. You can also find apps like Task-killer in the Play Store that will do this for you
Method 2 of 2: Download a volume app
Step #1. Search Google Play for volume or equalizer apps
If the regular volume control isn't enough, you can find apps in the Play Store, for example Volume+, that bypass the protective restrictions on the phone's sound output. 'Audio Manager' and 'Slider Widget' are also suitable, because 'Volume+' only works with music.
- Download a DSP such as 'viper2android' from Viper Audio. Viper allows raising the volume beyond the set maximums and has further options such as a graphic equalizer and bass boost.
- Examples of equalizer apps: "Equalizer Music Player Booster" or "Power amp." These are both equalizers. That means you can adjust the frequency or volume of your music.
Step #2. Download a volume app and open the settings
Download an app from the Google Play Store or the Amazon App Store. Once installed, open the app and tap the speaker settings. Perhaps this is called 'gain'.
Accept the terms. There are various options in 'Speaker settings' to improve the sound output
Step #3. Adjust the volume sliders
Tap 'Adjust speakers' and choose the desired volume. Do not try the highest volume right away, as you could damage your speakers. Gain increases the volume beyond the maximum set on your device, but leaving this setting too high for an extended period of time can damage your phone's speaker.
Furthermore, with the 'gain' the sound will sound too high, saturated. You will be taken to a next screen where you can 'reprogram' the maximum volume of your phone
Step 4. Buy an amplifier
If nothing works and you still want to turn up the volume, you may have to resort to buying an amplifier, such as a Boostaroo, that plugs into the headphone jack. These speakers are perfect for the motorcycle, or if you want to connect multiple things to your audio output, while the output remains maximum.
Step 5. Increase the quality of the file on a computer
Transfer the sound file to your computer using an SD card, USB cable, or other device. Increase the volume of the file on your computer with a sound editing program.
For example, if you have a sound file that isn't too loud, connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable and find the file on your phone (usually the song name followed by.mp3). Now import the file into a sound program and amplify the file as much as you want. Then put the file back on your phone
Some devices have a boost option that allows you to boost the volume of calls. This is usually hidden somewhere in the phone settings, such as with the Samsung Galaxy SIII
- Some built-in speakers cannot tolerate high volume.
- You can damage your ears if the volume is too high.
