This article will teach you how to hide or change the phone number that someone sees when you call that person from your Android. If your carrier allows it, you can hide your number from your Android's call settings. If not, you can download and use an app to change your caller ID. This app is called Dingtone and can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Through Android's Settings
Step #1. Open the Phone app on your Android
Tap the Phone app icon. It resembles a white horn on a green or blue background.
Not all carriers support hiding your caller ID from the settings. If this method doesn't work, try another method from this article
Step 2. Press MORE or ⋮.
It's in the top right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step #3. Press Settings
This option is in the drop-down menu. This will open the call settings.
Some Samsung phones require you to press 'Call' before you can continue
Step #4. Scroll down and hit More Settings
This is near the bottom of the page.
Step 5. Press Show my caller ID
This is near the top of the page. This will bring up a pop-up menu or a pull-down menu.
Step 6. Press Hide Number
This option is in the menu. This will hide your caller ID as long as your carrier and/or region allows it.
If you don't see this option, your carrier doesn't support anonymous caller ID. You can contact your carrier and try to get this feature as most Android phones support Anonymous Caller ID by themselves. However, this will probably come with a price tag
Method 2 of 2: With Dingtone
Step 1. Download Dingtone
Dingtone is a free app on the Google Play Store, but the downside of Dingtone is that you have to pay for more call time once you run out of it. By default, the app offers 15 credits of call time. To download Dingtone, do the following:
- Open the 'Google Play Store'
- Press the 'search bar'
- Type "dingtone"
- Press 'Dingtone'
- Press 'INSTALL'
- Press 'ACCEPT' when prompted.
- Press 'OPEN' when it appears.
Step 2. Press Sign In
This blue button is at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Enter your phone number
Tap the 'Press to enter your phone number' field and then type in your current phone number.
Step 4. Press Continue
It's in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 5. Press OK when prompted
Dingtone will send a text message with a verification code to the number you provided.
Step 6. Open the Messages app on your Android
Make sure you don't close the Dingtone app while doing this.
Step 7. Open the SMS from Dingtone
Tap the message from Dingtone that starts with "Your Dingtone access code".
Step 8. Write down your verification number
The four-digit number in the text message is the code you need to use to verify your number and create your Dingtone account.
Step 9. Go back to Dingtone and enter the verification number
Tap the leftmost box at the top of the screen, then type the number.
Step 10. Press Continue
It's in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 11. Enter a name and then press Continue
Type the name you want to use in the text field at the top of the screen.
Step 12. Tap Get a FREE phone number when this notification pops up
It will appear in a pop-up window.
Step 13. Enter your area code and then press Search
Do this at the top of the screen. The network code you enter must be for the city or region you want to use as a phone number.
Step 14. Select a number and then press Continue
This will set the new number as your Dingtone Caller ID.
Step 15. Press Finish and then on To call.
This will take you to an infographic page in Dingtone.
Step 16. Swipe from right to left and then press Call now
This will open the Dingtone app.
Step 17. Place a call
Enter the phone number you want to call and then press the green phone button to send the call. This will use your Dingtone phone number instead of your own.
