This wikiHow teaches you how to save your Snaps to your phone's camera roll before sending them, and how to save the Snaps you've received.

Method 1 of 2: Save your Snapchats before sending them

Step #1. Open Snapchat

This is the yellow square with a ghost icon on your home screen, or in a folder on your home screen.

Step #2. Swipe down

Snapchat always immediately opens the camera and by swiping down the Snapchat home screen appears.

Step 3. Click on the gear icon at the top right of the screen

This will take you to your Snapchat Settings menu.

Step #4. Click on Reminders

This option is under My account in the top half of the Settings menu.

Step 5. Click on Save As

This option is under Save at the bottom of the Reminders menu.

Step 6. Select Camera Roll Only

By choosing this option, you can save your Snapchats directly to your phone's camera roll before sending them.

  • Select Memories if you only want to save your photos to your Snapchat Memories; a personalized album where you can view and share your favorite Snaps and Stories. Click here to learn more about Memories.
  • Select Memories & Camera Roll if you want to save your photos to both your Memories and your phone's camera roll.

Step 7. Return to the Snapchat home screen

Click the back button at the top right of the screen until you return to the home screen.

Step 8. Swipe up to your home screen

This will take you to the Snapchat camera.

Step 9. Take a Snap

Click the Record button to take a photo, or hold down the button to record a video. This button looks like a large white circle at the bottom of your screen, and will disappear once you've taken a Snap. Once you've taken a photo or video, you can add text, drawings, and stickers to your Snap.

  • Click on the top right the pencil icon to draw on your Snap. You can change the color by clicking on the color spectrum below the pencil icon. The color spectrum will appear when you click on the pencil icon, and the pencil will show your current color.
  • click on the T icon top right next to the pencil. Allows you to add a caption. Your keyboard will appear at the bottom of your screen, and you can start typing. Click the T icon again to enlarge your text or choose a different color.
  • click on the square icon at the top of the screen, next to the T icon. This will bring up the Sticker menu. Choose a sticker and add it to your Snap. You can also add a Bitmoji from the Sticker menu.
  • click on the scissors icon to make your own sticker. This allows you to copy and paste anything into your Snap.

Step 10. Click the Send button

It's the right-pointing arrow icon next to the Snaptimer at the bottom left of your screen. When you click on it, your photo will immediately be saved to your camera roll.

Method 2 of 2: Save received Snapchats

Step #1. Open Snapchat

This is the yellow square with a ghost icon on your home screen, or in a folder on your home screen.

Step #2. Swipe right

Snapchat always immediately opens the camera and by swiping to the right you get to the Chat page, where you can view your received Snaps.

Step 3. Click on the Snap you want to save

This will open the Snap and give you 1 to 10 seconds to view it.

You can only view each snap once, and look back one per day. You will not be able to view or save a Snap that you have already opened and closed unless you review the Snap immediately after it ends

Step #4. Take a screenshot before the Snap ends

Keep the On off- and Startbuttons simultaneously and release them. You will hear a shutter sound and see your screen flash, indicating that you have taken a screenshot. Your screenshot of the Snap will be saved to your camera roll.
