Netflix codes are a great trick to personalize your Netflix experience and find movies that match your interests. To use Netflix codes you need to find the code you want, type this code into the Netflix URL, and scroll through the list of movies until you find something good. Keep in mind that Netflix's database is continuously updated. Some codes may stop working at some point, but you should always be able to find enough codes to adapt Netflix to your needs.
Part 1 of 3: Finding the code you want
Step 1. Find the latest list of codes
Netflix has a long list of four to six digit codes that can help you find specific types of movies. This list of codes is constantly changing, so type "Netflix codes" into a search engine to find the latest list.
Websites like What's On Netflix and Netflixcodes.me keep up-to-date lists of codes
Step 2. Scroll through the codes to find a movie genre
Look through the codes until you find a genre you want to search for. The codes divide Netflix movies into very specific criteria, so you can quickly find the kind of movie you're looking for.
- Some codes are quite common. For example, the code 1402 is for raw or risqué comedies, and 67673 is for Disney movies.
- Other codes are actually very specific. For example, the code 1577 is for acclaimed quirky comedies, and 1271 is for emotional documentaries.
Step 3. Copy the code you have chosen
Select the code you want with your mouse. Then copy the code. You can of course also write the code down somewhere, so that you can type it in yourself later.
Part 2 of 3: Entering the code in Netflix's URL
Step #1. Go to Netflix's regular browse URL
Open a browser on your laptop or computer. Go to Netflix's website and click browse. You can also type the URL http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/ into your browser.
Step 2. Add your code to the end of the URL
Paste the copied code at the end of the URL, and press enter. You will now be taken to a page with movies of that specific genre.
For example, if you're using the code 1577 for quirky comedies, you'd type in "http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/1577"
Step #3. Browse the movie selection
You will now be presented with a list of movies of the genre you have selected. Here you can browse through the selection and choose a movie as you normally would.
Part 3 of 3: Troubleshooting
Step 1. Check the URL and the code
If your code doesn't work, check what you typed. Make sure that the Netflix URL is correct and that you entered the code correctly.
Step 2. Do not try to use the codes on apps or smart TVs
You can only use Netflix codes in a web browser. So you need a laptop or computer. You cannot type them in an app or on a smart TV.
Step #3. Remember that codes sometimes stop working
If a code suddenly stops working, it could be because Netflix changed the movie database. In these changes, Netflix can also make adjustments to the formats, so that certain codes are no longer needed. If a certain code stops working, you will have to find another code with a category that resembles it.
