Have you ever lost your way in Minecraft? Do you wish there was something to help you find your way back home? Beacons can help you with this, but the best Minecraft beacons also have the property that they can increase your status, such as improving your strength, armor and other attributes. Continue reading below for instructions on how to create a special beacon and a simple beacon that doesn't have these effects.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Gather your materials

Make a Beacon in Minecraft Step 1

Step 1. Gather the material for the base of the pyramid

For this you need iron, gold, emerald or diamond. To make the most powerful beacon (the higher the stronger), you need 164 blocks of any of these materials.

  • All four blocks are made by making a block of 9 smaller resources. Iron ore makes blocks of iron, diamond makes blocks of diamond, etc.
  • Gold and iron ore are found in the same way as most other ores (iron is easier to find than gold. Emerald is incredibly hard to find and can be found in Extreme Hills.

Step 2. Look for obsidian

You will need 3 pieces of obsidian to make the beacon. This is easy to find or create by bringing lava into contact with flowing water. The water should end up on top of the lava, instead of the other way around (that's how you make boulders).

Step 3. Get your glass

Glass is easy to make by melting sand in a furnace. You need 5 blocks of glass.

Step 4. Get a Netherster

This is the hardest part. If you're in Creative mode, getting a Netherster isn't that hard, but in Survival Mode it's quite a challenge. To get a Netherstar you must conquer a Wither. He then drops a Nether star.

  • Summoning a Wither is the same as creating a Golem. Place four soul sands (found in the Nether) in front of you in the shape of a T, and place 3 Wither skeleton skulls on top (the skulls are left after killing a Wither skeleton).
  • The Wither comes to life and gains energy. When the energy meter is full, the creature explodes. Wait for that before trying to kill the creature.

Method 2 of 3: Build the beacon

Step 1. Clear an area

Provide a large and empty area to build on so that you have enough space for the beacon. The area should be at least 9x9.

Step 2. Make the first layer

You do this by placing the blocks of the material of your choice in a 9x9 square.

Step 3. Make the second layer

You do this by placing a second layer of 7x7 in the middle of the first layer. So a ring of blocks remains visible from the first layer.

Step 4. Make the third layer

You do this by placing a third layer of 5x5 in the middle of the second layer. A ring of blocks remains visible from the second layer.

Step 5. Create the fourth layer

You do this by placing a fourth layer of 3x3 in the middle of the third layer. So a ring of blocks from the third layer remains visible.

Step 6. Place the beacon on top

The beacon is made with 3 pieces of obsidian. Place it in the bottom row of the workbench, place the Nether star in the middle of the grid and fill the other 5 compartments with glass.

Step 7. Choose your status effect

Once the beacon has been created, you need to right click on it to view and change your status effects. By default it is set to regenerate.

Method 3 of 3: Making a simple beacon

Make a Beacon in Minecraft Step 12

Step 1. Find a suitable place

This is a simple beacon, unlike the previous one. This is used as a home beacon and gives less light, so don't place it too low. Place this beacon on a hill or mountain so that you can see it from a great distance.

Step 2. Stack 3 to 6 blocks on top of each other

Use any material you want (except water or wood).

Step 3. Make a small glass box, but keep the top open

Make a Beacon in Minecraft Step 15

Step 4. Bring lava to it with a bucket and throw it into the box

Lava can be found underground and sometimes in a lake.

Make a Beacon in Minecraft Step 16

Step 5. Seal the box with a glass block

Tips

  • The higher the beacon, the better you can see it at night.
  • The beacon works best when it is dark. You can see the light from a great distance.
  • When making the glass box, hold down Shift so that you can easily place the blocks without them falling.
  • You can also make a tower, but a beacon is more efficient.
  • If you don't want to or can't work with lava, use (many) torches.

Warnings

  • Hold back! Do not make the beacon too high, otherwise no one can see it.
  • Be careful with the lava!
