This wikiHow article teaches you how to tame any animal that can be domesticated in Minecraft. Animals that can be domesticated include horses, donkeys, mules, ocelots, wolves and parrots. These animals can be tamed one by one in any version of Minecraft, including the PC version, the Pocket Edition version, and the console version.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Taming horses, donkeys and mules

Step 1. Find optional tools
While none of the following is required to tame a horse, donkey, or mule, they will make the process easier:
- Saddle – A saddle allows you to steer a horse after you have tamed it; you can ride bareback horses…but not steer. Saddles can appear in the chests of village smiths or in chests in dungeons.
You cannot make a saddle
- Apples – By having about 20 apples on hand, you can feed the horse before attempting to tame him. This greatly increases the chance that you can tame the horse the first or second time.
Golden apples will speed up this process

Step 2. Find a horse, donkey or mule
These animals are mainly found in the Plain and Savannah climates, although you may also encounter horses in the villages of NPCs.

Step 3. Approach the animal empty-handed
Horses, donkeys and mules are not aggressive, but to attempt to mount them your hands must be empty.
If you want to feed the animal, take an apple from your stash instead

Step 4. Select an animal
Right click on the animal (PC), use the left action button (consoles) or press the 'Get up' button in the PE, as soon as you are close enough to the animal. You will mount the animal automatically.
If you want to feed the animal, click on it with the apple until the animal refuses to eat any more. Then click empty handed on the animal

Step 5. Wait for the animal to shed you
The horse, donkey, and mule will carry you for a moment, no more than one to a few seconds, before throwing you off their backs and walking away.

Step 6. Keep selecting the animal until you see red hearts appear
Once the animal stops trying to throw you off, you should see red hearts appearing around it; this indicates that the horse, donkey or mule has been tamed.

Step 7. Saddle the tamed horse, donkey or mule
To saddle the tamed animal, mount it, press E and then drag the saddle to the "Saddle" space of the animal's inventory.
- In Minecraft PE you have to mount the animal, on ⋯ tap, then tap the saddle and then the animal's 'Saddle' icon.
- In the editions of Minecraft for consoles you have to mount the animal, on Y or the triangle tap, select the saddle and then select the 'Saddle' icon in the top left corner.
Method 2 of 4: Taming ocelots

Step 1. Collect raw fish
You will need some raw (uncooked) fish to tame an ocelot:
- Make a fishing rod.
- Find some water.
- Grab the fishing rod.
- Select the water.
- Repeat until you have at least 10 fish.

Step 2. Find an ocelot
Ocelots are usually found in Jungle biomes, although they typically appear near sea level (or higher) grass blocks in the world.
Ocelots can be quite elusive when you frighten them, so you may have to search a long time to find one

Step 3. Don't just run towards the ocelot
It is best to approach the ocelot carefully while it is looking away from you, but as soon as it is looking in your direction you should stand still.
A good rule of thumb here is to stay about 10 blocks away from the ocelot

Step 4. Get the raw fish
You must have the raw fish in hand before taking the next step.

Step 5. Let the ocelot come to you
A few seconds after you catch the fish, the ocelot should come running towards you.
At this point it is very important that you do not move

Step 6. Select the ocelot repeatedly until it turns into a cat
Once the ocelot is in range, right click on it (PC), use the left action button (consoles) or tap and hold the ocelot until it turns into a cat. After doing this, the ocelot is tamed.
Method 3 of 4: Taming wolves

Step 1. Kill a skeleton to get a bone
You can find skeletons wherever there is little light, such as in caves or at night.
- Be careful. Skeletons can easily kill you if you don't have a sword handy.
- You may need to kill several skeletons before one drops a bone.

Step 2. Find a wolf
Wolves are typically found in any Taiga variety. In addition, in the Java and Legacy Console editions of Minecraft, they can also be found in forest biomes.

Step 3. Grab the bone
Make sure you have the bone in your hand before moving on to the next step.

Step 4. Approach the wolf
Walk towards the wolf with bone in hand.
Wolves are not aggressive by nature, but they will attack you if you attack them

Step 5. Select the wolf until a collar appears around its neck
Right click, use the left action button or tap and hold the wolf until the collar appears. You should only have to do this a few times.
- If you accidentally hit the wolf while doing this, the wolf will attack you and be indomitable afterwards.
- The wolf will tilt its head and sit down once you've tamed it.
- Tamed wolves don't disappear.
Method 4 of 4: Taming parrots

Step 1. Collect at least five seeds
You collect seeds by breaking tufts of grass. In all likelihood, you will need to break several tufts of grass to get one set of seeds. Once you have collected about five seeds, you can move on to the next step.
In the editions of Minecraft for consoles, seeds are referred to as "wheat seeds"

Step 2. Find a parrot
Fittingly, you'll find parrots in Jungle biomes. They are small, multicolored and often fly short distances.

Step 3. Get the seeds
Make sure you have the seeds in your hand before moving on to the next step.

Step 4. Approach the parrot
If the parrot flies away before you reach it, all you have to do is chase it - parrots can't fly very far, nor are they very fast.

Step 5. Select the parrot until hearts appear around it
With the seeds, you have to right click on the parrot, use the left action button or tap and hold the parrot until the red hearts appear around him. This indicates that you have successfully tamed the parrot.

Step 6. Place the parrot on your shoulder
Walking "through" the parrot will make it hop onto your shoulder, where it will stay until you go to sleep in a bed or mount a horse (or do something similar).
Tips
- You can also use a saddle for a pig, although the pig cannot be steered without using a carrot on a stick.
- Taming animals is a requirement to breed them.
- Most tamed animals will follow you everywhere.
- You can find horse armor in dungeons, temples, and Nether fortresses. Unfortunately, you cannot make armor for horses yourself.
- Parrots can be used as radar because they mimic the sounds of mobs, letting you know what's nearby.
- As of the new Village and Pillage update, you can no longer tame ocelots. Instead, there are stray cats that you can tame using the same method.
