This article will highlight some ways to increase your Xbox One's download speed. While your download speed usually depends on your ISP and the type of connection you have, there are some things you can do to troubleshoot and fix slow download speeds. After you've tested your network connection, it can sometimes help to close other games or apps, restart slow or frozen downloads, restart the Xbox One itself, or use a wired connection to your Internet router instead of Wi-Fi.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Test your network connection

Step 1. On the Home screen, select My games & apps
It's a panel on the right side of the Xbox home screen.
Move the analog stick on the controller to the right to highlight this option, then press the A button on the controller to select it

Step 2. Select Queued
This will list all games and apps that are currently being downloaded or are waiting to be downloaded.

Step 3. Select an active download
You will see the progress of the selected download when you select it.

Step 4. On the controller, press the ☰ button
Press the Menu button with three lines near the center of the controller.

Step 5. Select Pause
This will pause the download. Repeat for each active download in your queue.
When you're done checking your internet connection, return to the Queue List in My Games & Apps, select all paused downloads, press the Menu button, then select Resume Installation

Step 6. Press the Xbox button
This is the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This will display the guide.

Step 7. Select

It's the gear icon in the main left sidebar.
Move the controller's analog stick to the left, highlight the gear icon, then press the A button on the controller to select it

Step 8. Select All Settings
This is the first option at the top of the main Settings menu.

Step 9. Select the Network tab on the left
This is the third option.

Step 10. Select Network Settings
This is a panel in the middle of the Network Settings page.

Step 11. Select Test Network Connection
This is a panel on the right side of the Network Settings page. This will perform a network test and display the detected download speed. If the detected download speed is significantly lower than the subscription plan you have taken out with your ISP, here are some possible causes:
- “Other devices on your network connection”: If other people in your family use the internet to stream movies or series, your computer will run slower. Try disconnecting all other devices.
- Peak hours: During the evening when everyone is home and using the internet, your internet speed is usually slower than usual. Try downloading overnight instead.
- "Network Problems": There may be a problem with your Internet connection, modem, or router. You will need to contact your ISP to resolve the issue.
Method 2 of 5: Close open games or apps

Step #1. Press the Xbox button
This is the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This will close any games or apps that are still open and return you to the Start screen.

Step 2. Go to all running games or apps and select them
The large window on the Start screen lists all running apps.

Step 3. On the controller, press ☰
Press the Menu button with three lines near the center of the controller. This will bring up a menu with additional options.

Step #4. Select Exit
Highlight the 'Exit' option and press A on the controller. This will close the app. Multiplayer games and video streaming apps can consume a lot of bandwidth and slow down your ongoing downloads, if you have any. Avoid opening apps until your download is complete.
Method 3 of 5: Restart the Xbox

Step #1. Press the Xbox button
This is the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This will close any games or apps that are open and return you to the Start screen.

If the console doesn't respond, press and hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds. This will force the console to reset

Step 4. Make sure your downloads are resumed properly
To ensure that your downloads resume properly, you need to open 'My Games and Apps', select 'Queue' and then select any download that has been paused. Press the '☰' button on the controller and select 'Resume installation'.

Step 9. Select Install
This will resume the download and installation process. Look closely to see if the download speed has improved.
Method 5 of 5: Using a wired connection

Step 1. Connect an Ethernet cable to your XBox One
The Ethernet port is on the far right back of the XBox One. It is the gate below the icon with three squares connected by a line.
You'll need an Ethernet cable long enough to reach your modem or router from your Xbox. For more information, read Connecting your Xbox One to the Internet

Step 2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your router
A typical router has four LAN or Ethernet ports at the back of the router. These are usually a yellow color.
