Step 1. Find something to put your stuff in

You can put stuff in just about anything that has space, but not everything is safe to store your stuff in. There is no logical dividing line between which things are safe to put stuff in and which are not. To test out a stash, you'll need to put something of little value in it and wait 73 in-game hours. If it is still there, the storage area is safe.

Step 1. Avoid dropping valuable items

When you open the inventory you will see a Gold column. This reflects the value of the item, although you will not earn a commensurate amount if you sell the item to a merchant, unless your Mercantile skill has improved. Try to sell or use these items instead of dropping them.

Step 2. Drop items that weigh the most and are worth the least

The Spring Column shows the weight of the object. By dropping a single heavy object, you can avoid having to drop a lot of lighter, more valuable objects.

Step 3. Store precious items instead of dropping them

If you don't want to sell something but can no longer carry it around with you, you need a safe place where you can drop your item and it won't disappear.

  • Usually you can just drop things on the floor and not worry about them disappearing. This only works in the world indicated by the main map (not in 'dungeons'), and in addition, enemies can pick up weapons you've dropped.
  • You can safely store items in Clams, Torn Sacks, or Grain and Sacks. All containers in the houses you buy are also safe.
