Sims 3 is all about customization, but it can be difficult to make major changes to your Sims once the game has started. However, you can use the Create a Sim tool at any point in the game thanks to a few built-in cheats. There are some flaws in the cheats, but this way you can make big changes to all your Sims!
Step 1. Make sure your game is updated
This cheat is only available in newer versions of Sims 3. If you are playing the default game and have never updated it, you will not be able to use the cheat.
- Make sure your computer is connected to the internet.
- Click the "Game Updates" tab in the Sims 3 Launcher, then click the "Update Now" button. The patch will be downloaded and added to your game.
Step 2. Save your game
Using this cheat can cause errors in your game, so it's always a good idea to save before using the cheat. This is in case something goes wrong and you need to roll it back.
Step #3. Open the console
You can open it at any time by pressing Ctrl + Shift + C, one after the other.
If this doesn't open the console, you can try the Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + C key combination, which some users say will work instead
Step 4. Type
testingcheatsenabled true and press Enter.
This will cause special menus to appear when you click on things in the game while holding down Shift.
Step 5. Switch Sims so you don't check the Sim you want to edit at the same time
You will not see the option if you try to edit your activated Sim.
Step 6. Hold down Shift and click on the Sim you want to edit
Select "Edit Sim in Create a Sim" from the menu that appears.
You cannot edit Pregnant Sims, Imaginary Friends, Ghosts, Vampires, or Mummies
Step 7. Wait for the Create a Sim (CAS) tool to open
This will probably take a few minutes.
Step 8. Make your edits
Be aware that doing this can sometimes lead to bugs sneaking into the game, as the game wasn't designed to support this. Not all edits will be applied once you are done and there is a chance that your game will crash once you exit CAS.
Editing a Sim in CAS takes him back to the beginning of his life stage. For example, if you own a Young Adult Sim that turns into an Adult within one day, editing them in CAS will return them to the beginning of their Young Adult stage
- Use this cheat at own risk. Many users have reported crashes and errors occurring after opening CAS during a normal gaming session. Always save before using this cheat.
