Media servers allow you to access and play content from your PC/devices on your PS3. For example, if you have a video file on your PC, create a media server, put the video in the media server, and connect your PC to your PS3. Now you can play the video through your game console. This article will show you how to create a media server on an iPad and stream content from that device to your PlayStation 3.

Connect iPad to PS3 Step 1

Step 1. Download and install the IMediaShare app

You can download this for free from the App Store. You don't need the paid version to stream content to your PS3.

There are other apps with the same functionality, including: Connect, ArkMC, AirPlayer and 8player. They have the same features as iMediaShare, so you can choose an app that best suits your needs

Step 3. Connect your PS3 and your iPad to the same wireless network

These two devices must be connected to the same network in order to stream from your iPad to the PS3. See wikiHow for instructions on connecting an iPad and a PS3 to a network.

Your PS3 can be connected to a router via Ethernet, as long as it's the same router that broadcasts the wireless network your iPad is connected to

Step 5. Locate the media server on your PS3

After a few moments, your iPad will appear as a media server in the Music, Pictures, and Video group in the PS3 menu.

  • If the server does not appear, search for "Search for media servers" in one of the media menus. This will search the network for available servers.
  • If your iPad doesn't show up yet, make sure that both devices are on the same network, and that Media Servers is enabled on the PS3.
