Rosalina is one of the most difficult characters to unlock in Mario Kart Wii. The easiest way to get her is by using a Super Mario Galaxy savegame, as Rosalina is a character from that series. If you don't have Super Mario Galaxy, you can still unlock Rosalina by going through Mirror Mode. However, this will be a bit more difficult.
Method 1 of 2: Using Super Mario Galaxy
Step 1. Play Super Mario Galaxy on your Wii and create a savegame
The easiest way to unlock Rosalina is to use a Super Mario Galaxy save game. Try getting a copy from a friend if you don't own the game. If you can't get a copy, you can use the Mirror Mode method.
Super Mario Galaxy saves automatically once you have completed a level. You can also select 'Save & Quit' from the pause menu
Step 2. Race 50 times
After a Super Mario Galaxy save game has been created on your Wii, you will need to complete 50 races to unlock Rosalina. You don't have to win the races and you can play them against your friends as well as against the computer. Make sure you do races and not Time Trials or Battle Mode.
Step 3. Exit the game
If you are sure that you have completed 50 races, but Rosalina has not appeared, then you must exit the game and go back to the main Wii menu.
Step 4. Restart Mario Kart and select your License
Once you have selected your License, the message that you have unlocked Rosalina should appear. If not, it means you haven't completed 50 races since you added the Super Mario Galaxy save game.
Method 2 of 2: Playing the Mirror Mode
Step 1. Unlock Mirror Mode
If you don't have access to Super Mario you will need to unlock and complete Mirror Mode. Mirror Mode is unlocked after a Gold Trophy is obtained with each 150cc Cup. 150cc is the fastest mode in Mario Kart Wii and the AI is a lot stronger in this, meaning it can be quite difficult to score Gold Trophies on all Cups. - Beat the Mushroom and Flower Cups to unlock the Star Cup.
- Beat the Shell and Banana Cups to unlock the Leaf Cup.
- Beat the Star Cup to unlock the Special Cup.
- Beat the Leaf Cup to unlock the Lightning Cup.
Step 2. Score at least one Star on all eight Cups in 150cc Mirror Mode
Mirror Mode reverses the turns on all standard lanes so that right becomes left and vice versa. The amount of Stars you score will depend on a number of factors when completing the four races per cup. If you race as fast and as good as you can, you shouldn't have much trouble scoring a Star. However, keep the following in mind:
- Avoid hitting the walls and other obstacles (you can bump into a few per race and still get one Star).
- Try to avoid going off-road.
- Don't fall off the track. If you fall off twice you can assume that you will not score a single Star.
- Stay in 1st place as much as possible.
- Try to avoid using items to overtake someone.
- Score at least 50 points before the end of the Cup.
Step 3. Exit the game after getting at least one Star on all eight Cups
If you have received your star for all Cups, but Rosalina does not appear, you must exit the game and go back to the main Wii menu.
Step 4. Launch Mario Kart Wii and select your License
A message will appear that Rosalina is now available. If you don't get this message, you probably didn't score a Star on at least one of the 150cc Mirror Mode Cups.
