Dry Bowser is one of the secret characters that can be unlocked in Mario Kart Wii. He is the skeletal version of Bowser and is also a Heavy class racer. To unlock Dry Bowser you must have a score of one Star or better on all 150cc Grand Prix cups. 150cc is the hardest mode in the game, so you'll have to pull out all the stops to earn these Stars.
Step 1. Understand how to unlock Dry Bowser
To unlock Dry Bowser in Mario kart Wii, you must have a score of one Star or better on all 150cc Grand Prix cups. The amount of Stars you score depends on a hidden points system that rates your driving skills, but usually the better you race, the more Stars you earn. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you try to increase your Star Rating.
- You can also unlock Dry Bowser by playing 4,350 races and/or battles. This will take a lot of time, so if you really want Dry Bowser you'll need to get the required Star Ratings.
- In Mario Kart 8 (Wii U), Dry Bowser is a downloadable additional character (DLC), which can be purchased from Nintendo.
Step 2. Unlock all cups
You will need to have a score of one Star or better on each cup, which means you need to make sure all cups have been cleared. You unlock cups by winning other cups.
- Win the Mushroom and Flower Cups to unlock the Star Cup.
- Win the Shell and Banana Cups to unlock the Leaf Cup.
- Win the Star Cup to unlock the Special Cup.
- Win the Leaf Cup to unlock the Lightning Cup.
Step 3. Race each cup in 150cc mode
This is the fastest and most difficult mode in Mario Kart Wii. Your opponents will be smarter and you will have to take full advantage of shorter routes and advanced steering techniques. Since you are targeting a Star score it will be even more difficult.
Step 4. Avoid bumping into walls or other obstacles while racing
One of the most important things to avoid when going for a Star score is bumping into a solid object. You may bump into something once or twice per cup before you become ineligible for a Star. This means you have to be in top shape and know the track like the back of your hand.
Avoid getting off the road as much as possible
Step 5. Stay in the lead
The longer you stay in 1st place, the closer you get to your star. At the beginning of the race, at the start, try to get the lead, and then do everything you can to maintain that lead. A go-kart or motorcycle with good acceleration will help you get a competitive edge at the start of the race.
Step 6. Avoid using guns to overtake someone
It may seem difficult, but you should avoid using weapons if you have fallen behind the group. You can only get away with this once per cup. If you find you've fallen behind, you'll need to use all your driving skills to catch up, not items.
Step 7. Drive fast
Faster times will be rewarded with more Stars. Drive as fast as you can. This again means that you have to know all the tracks inside and out, especially since 150cc is already faster than any other mode.
Babies (Peach, Mario, Luigi, or Daisy), Rosalina, and other small characters are fastest when riding the bullet bike or Mini Beast
Step 8. Score at least 50 points during the cup
If you score less than 50 points in total during the cup, there is very little chance that you will get a Star. If during the game you find that you will not reach that amount of points, you can restart and try again.
Step 9. After scoring a Star on all eight 150cc cups, exit the game and go back to the Wii menu
Many players indicate that they must first restart Mario Kart Wii to actually unlock Dry Bowser, even after scoring at least one Star on all eight 150cc Grand Prix cups. Once you know you have achieved all the required scores, press the 'Home' button to exit and return to the main Wii menu.
Step 10. Restart Mario Kart and click on your driver's license
You will be notified that Dry Bowser is now available if you have achieved at least one Star on each 150cc Grand Prix cup.
