This wikiHow teaches you how to send a fax online by using your email address instead of a fax number. There are a number of free online services you can use to do this, or you can sign up for a paid fax service that allows you to send faxes directly from your inbox.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using FaxZero

Step 1. Open FaxZero
Go to https://faxzero.com/ in your computer's web browser.
With FaxZero you can send up to 5 free faxes per day, with a maximum of 3 pages (plus a cover) per fax (15 pages and 5 covers total)

Step 2. Enter your sender information
In the green "Sender Information" section at the top of the page, do the following:
- Type your first and last name in the 'Name' text box.
- Enter your company name in the "Company" text box (optional).
- Enter your email address in the 'Email' text box.
- Add your phone number in the 'Phone #' text box.

Step 3. Add your recipient information
Use the blue "Recipient Information" section at the top of the page as follows.
- Enter the recipient's name in the Name' text box.
- Enter the recipient's company name in the "Company" text box (optional).
- Enter the recipient's fax number in the 'Fax Number' text box.

Step 4. Click on Choose files
This gray button is located under the "Fax Information" heading in the middle of the page. This will open an Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window.

Step 5. Select a document
Locate the PDF or Word document you want to send and click it once to select it.
Your document must be 3 pages or less

Step 6. Click Open
This is at the bottom right of the window. Uploads the selected document to the FaxZero form.
- If you want to upload another document, you can click the button again Choose files and select another document. You can do this as long as the total number of pages for the uploaded documents does not exceed 3 pages.

Step 7. Add a cover page
You can enter the information for your cover page by typing it in the text box below the uploaded documents.
- You can also format the text on the cover page by selecting it and then clicking one of the formatting options (for example, click B to make the selected text bold).

Step 8. Enter the confirmation code
In the "Confirmation code" text box, enter the 5-character code that appears at the bottom of the page.

Step 9. Scroll down and click on Send a Free Fax Now
It's located at the bottom left of the page, at the bottom of the green "Free Faxing" section. As long as all FaxZero text fields are filled in, this will send your fax to the listed recipient.
Method 2 of 3: Using GotFreeFax

Step 1. Open GotFreeFax
Go to https://www.gotfreefax.com/ in your computer's web browser.
GotFreeFax allows you to send up to 2 free faxes per day, with an upper limit of three pages per fax (plus a cover page)

Step 2. Enter your sender information
In the "Sender Information" section at the top left of the page, do the following:
- Type your name in the 'Name' text box.
- Enter your company name in the "Company" text box (optional).
- Enter your email address in the 'Email' text box.

Step 3. Add your recipient information
In the "Recipient Information" section to the right of the "Sender Information" section, do the following:
- Enter the recipient's name in the 'Name' text box.
- Enter the recipient's company name in the "Company" text box (optional).
- Enter the recipient's fax number in the 'Fax Number' text box.

Step 4. Create the front page of your fax
Under the "Fax Content" heading on the left side of the page, type your cover page information in the text box.

Step 5. Click Choose File
It's on the right side of the page. This will open a window in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).

Step 6. Select a document
Locate the PDF or Word document you want to send and click it once to select it.
Your document must contain 3 or fewer pages

Step 7. Click Open
It's at the bottom right of the window. The selected document is uploaded.
- If you want to upload another document, you can click again on a Choose files and select another document. You can do this as long as the total number of pages for the uploaded documents does not exceed 3 pages.

Step 8. Click Send a FREE Fax Now
It's at the bottom left of the page. This will send your fax to your selected recipient's fax machine.Method 3 of 3: Using a paid fax service

Step 1. Subscribe to a fax service
If you're not already subscribed to a fax-sending service, such as eFax or RingCentral, you'll need to sign up for an account with your preferred email address and a credit card.
Most paid fax services offer a 30-day free trial. You can usually cancel your account before the trial period ends to avoid being charged

Step 2. Find your fax extension
The fax extension varies from service to service, but some of the extensions to popular fax services include the following:
- eFax - [email protected]
- RingCentral - [email protected]

Step 3. Open your email inbox
This should be the email address you used to create your fax service account.

Step 4. Open a new email window
Click on draw up, New, or +.

Step 5. Enter the recipient's fax number and your fax extension
Enter the recipient's fax number in the "To" text field, then enter your fax number.
For example, if you want to send an eFax message to the fax, you could type [email protected] here

Step 6. Upload documents to the email
Click on the 'Attachments' icon

and then select your PDF, Word, text or other document and click To open.
- Paid fax services can convert most files to fax pages.
- To select multiple files to upload, hold down Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ Command (Mac) as you click each file.

Step 7. Add a cover page
Depending on your fax service, type the contents of your cover page in the "Subject" text field or the body text field of the email.
This varies from fax service to fax service, so check the Help page for your chosen service if necessary

Step 8. Click Send or the "Send"
icon. Once your fax is ready, it will send the fax to your recipient's fax machine.
